The first signs of experiencing a hearing difficulty usually occur in group conversations, for example in the pub or in the workplace. You may notice a slight lack of clarity, conversations may become muffled or words a little difficult to distinguish. You might find yourself asking people to speak up. Or you may experience a ringing n your ear- called tinnitus- which can inhibit your hearing.
Hearing loss can be very frustrating. Trying to compensate for loss of hearing is tiring and can affect your behaviour in everyday situations. The temptation is to ignore your difficulty. However there are times when it is vital that you do hear, for example business, leisure or even in traffic.
These days hearing loss can be easily diagnosed and helped; reducing the restrictions hard of hearing imposes on you and allowing you to get on with leading a normal life. There really is no need to suffer in silence.
