There are three types of Hearing Loss depending on which part of the ear is affected. We provide comprehensive a Hearing Test to determine your condition.
This occurs when something prevents the efficient transmission of sound through the Outer or Middle Ear (such as wax blockage or an ear infection). Many conductive losses can be treated by antibiotics or simple wax removal by your G.P or other medical intervention.
Permanent Conductive Hearing Loss can be successfully alleviated with a hearing aid.
Sometimes called Nerve or Perceptive Loss – occurs where the Outer and Middle Ear function properly but the message gets distorted in the Inner Ear, often resulting in a loss of clarity. Common causes are exposure to loud noise, advancing age and hereditary conditions.
Sensori-Neural Hearing Loss is the most common type seen in adults. Every year, in Ireland, thousands of hearing aids are fitted to people with this type of loss.
Mixed loss is where both a Conductive and Sensori-neural loss occur at the same time. Hearing aids may be appropriate for these cases as well.
